Health & Safety at Baxall

The health, safety and welfare of all affected by our works is paramount.

Health & Safety at Baxall

We promote and encourage a safe and proactive working culture to our staff, supply chain and stakeholders and work closely with our specialist consultants and advisors to stay abreast of best working practice, industry developments and current legislation.

Training forms a major part of our annual company investment and all delivery staff are fully qualified to carry out their roles in an informed, professional and safe manner. Reflective of this commitment to training and best practice is our ISO 45001 accreditation, CSCS membership (100% staff achievement) and affiliation/awards from key organisations and establishments including the Considerate Constructors Scheme, NFB Continuous Improvement Club, Weald Construction Training Group, Sustainability School and EC Safety Solutions (our independent H&S consultants who regularly review our rigorous safety procedures).

Our Health, Safety & Environmental Policy provides the foundations of safe practice and is inducted to all staff and delivery partners. We have in place robust measures for the auditing, review, monitoring and continuous improvement of our works which include sub-contractor vetting, risk assessment and risk management. Our Safety Committee carries representation from all levels of staff and meets regularly to review and discuss performance (internal KPIs), procedure, lessons learnt and industry developments.

We are proud to maintain an exemplary health and safety record well below the industry average and have zero tolerance to poor health and safety practice throughout our operations.

COVID compliance

Since the emergence of the pandemic in March 2020 our primary objective has been to create and maintain a fully COVID-compliant workplace across all our site and office-based operations.

By stringently adhering to the latest processes, procedures and legislation set out by the Construction Leadership Council (CLC), Government, Public Health England and Health and Safety Executive (HSE), our COVID-19 safety protocols have set the highest standards for all staff, clients, site operatives, supply chain and project stakeholders – as evidenced in the following feedback we have received:

“Baxall clearly understand the importance of health and safety and are, without question, COVID secure on site and office, and undoubtedly leading the way in supporting staff and supply chain. Keep up the excellent work.”
HSE Inspector, February 2021

“You were the first to bring masks in. The cleaning regimes you have in place are well maintained and professional.”
Matt Phillips, Contracts Manager, GPB Construction Ltd (groundworks supplier)

“As a Local Authority (regardless of lockdown), Baxall understood the requirement for statutory requirements didn’t stop. Baxall have created a lot of efficiencies during this period… I think they may become best practices going forward.”
Emily Stapley, Senior Project Manager (Education), Infrastructure Division, Kent County Council

“The latest Health and Safety Audit demonstrated exemplary compliance and, following a recent HSE company visit, Baxall received a valued ‘commendation’ for Safe Operating Procedures and Practices – well done team.”
