The Lairug Ghru Charity Trek

Baxall Trekkers Lairug Ghru Charity Trek in aid of the Hospice in the Weald

On 16th May 2008 The 'Baxall Trekkers' - Nigel Exall, Malcolm Clarke, Roger Hills, Michael Watts, Matthew Green, Peter Kouprianoff and Antonio Sousa, supported by Ray Chatfield and Roger Bannister took part in a Charity Walk across the Cairngorm Mountains.

The trekkers decided to do the walk to raise money for our Local Hospice - The Hospice in the Weald. The Hospice do a fantastic job of looking after cancer patients and rely on the support of fundraisers like the Baxall Trekkers to fund the upkeep of the Hospice. The Lairig Ghru is possibly the best known high level pass in Scotland. The route is 24 miles of hard terrain rising to nearly 3000ft and with possibility of snow and inclement weather at anytime of the year.

The challenge was for the team to complete the trek within 10hrs. The team managed to complete the trek in approximately 8 hours.

The Trekkers did extremely well with many of the team pushing themselves beyond the pain barrier - Peter probably more than most - he suffered with the most awful blisters as some of the photographs show.

The presentation of the cheque to the Hospice took place on Thursday 18th September the total amount raised was 5,917.41.

Congratulations to all those involved and thank you to all those that sponsored the team!
